Design Trend of the Month: Green Driveways

Here at TOOLBX, we’re all about building sustainably. This Green, Permeable Paver Driveway created by Toronto Based design firm Modern Kind for an ongoing project is a half lawn/half concrete driveway. These special pavers allow for rainwater to percolate between the designed holes and cracks between them so that it reaches the ground before there is excess runoff.

These permeable pavers help minimize the exposure to pollutants picked up by the water before entering the ground with quick and easy drainage. Contrary to popular belief, green driveways are just as durable and load bearing as a traditional paved driveway, and one might argue even MORE aesthetically pleasing. This type of driveway helps keep run off water from the sewers, and it will produce less heat. It also reduces transportation pollution, and prevents flooding, erosion and pooling from excess runoff water on your property. Once the green driveway settles, it can be mowed to look more manicured. A green driveway looks fresh and is a whole lot easier on the planet than traditional impermeable paved driveways.
